Paul Thuras, PhD

Dr. Thuras is a Statistician at Veterans Health Administration, anĀ  Adjunct Assistant Professor at St. Mary's University of Minnesota, and Research Associate at University of Minnesota

Dr. Thuras received his PhD in Social Ecology from the University of California, Irvine in 1989. Until 1991 he was a Postdoctoral Fellow and Assistant Project Director at the Philadelphia Geriatric Center, where his work focused on the study of depression in long-term care settings and the physical and psychological effects of relocation within the nursing home. As a Brookdale Fellow in the Institute for Health Services Research in the School of Public Health at the University of Minnesota, Dr. Thuras conducted research examining the decisions that hospitalized older people and their families make about long-term care and how the decision-making process is related to patient and caregiver well-being.

More recently, Dr. Thuras has been developing a website designed to assist older families in planning for aging, including developing strategies for decision making. Currently Dr. Thuras is a statistician and research methodologist in the Psychiatry Department at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Minneapolis.
