Mark Supiano, MD

Mark A. Supiano, M.D. is Professor and Chief of the Division of Geriatric Medicine, Director of the VA Salt Lake City Geriatric Research, Education and Clinical Center, and Executive Director of the University of Utah Center on Aging. He was recruited from the University of Michigan to assume these positions in October 2005.

He is a board-certified geriatrician with a clinical interest in providing consultative, comprehensive assessments of older patients.

His research interests include understanding mechanisms of geriatric hypertension. He is author of over 60 research papers and book chapters and is the recipient of the 1999 Outstanding Clinical Research Award from the American Geriatrics Society. Dr. Supiano was an Associate Editor of the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society (2000-2006) and has served many leadership roles in the American Geriatrics Society.

At the University of Utah he is principal investigator of its D.W. Reynolds Foundation-sponsored program to strengthen physician’s training in geriatrics. He also is funded by an NIA Geriatric Academic Leadership Award that is supporting the development of the Center on Aging’s research programs.
