Sarkisian, MD, MSPH, Associate Professor, is a geriatrician and health services researcher in the UCLA Division of Geriatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA and the VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System Geriatrics Research Education Clinical Center (GRECC). She completed a 1-year clinical geriatrics fellowship at the UCLA Multicampus Program in Geriatrics and Gerontology, and joined the faculty in the UCLA Division of Geriatrics as a Clinician Scientist in 2000. In July, 2008, she joined the VA Greater Los Angeles GRECC. She is currently leading a multidisciplinary community-based randomized trial of a behavioral intervention aimed at increasing walking among sedentary older Latinos in a 5-year R01 from the NIA, “Caminemos!” Enrollment of 572 older adults has been completed and this project is active in 27 community sites in the greater Los Angeles region. In addition to Caminemos, she was awarded a Paul B. Beeson Award to pilot test whether this intervention (which is aimed at changing beliefs about aging) can succeed among octogenarians She is Co-Director of the UCLA Claude D. Pepper Older Americans Independence Center Research Training Core and has been an active member of the American Geriatrics Society Research Committee. She is a committed research mentor to several fellows and junior faculty, including Dr. Amy Kelley, a 2009 Brookdale Fellow.
