Diane Rowland

Dr. Rowland is the Executive Vice President of The Henry J. Kaiser Family Foundation and Executive Director of The Kaiser Commission on the Future of Medicaid. She holds an appointment as Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management at the School of Hygiene and Public Health of Johns Hopkins University.

Dr. Rowland specializes in issues related to access to and financing of health care for the elderly and disabled. From 1976-1981 she served as special assistant to the administrator of the Health Care Financing Administration and later as acting deputy assistant secretary for planning and evaluation/health in the Department of Health and Human Services. From 1983- 1987, she was a senior staff associate of the House of Representatives Energy and Commerce Subcommittee on Health and the Environment. Dr. Rowland serves on the Board of the Academy for Health Services Research and Health Policy, the Secretary’s Task Force on Infant Mortality, and the Commonwealth Fund Task Force on Health Insurance for Working Americans. She is founding member of the National Academy for Social Insurance, and Past-President and Fellow of the Association for Health Services Research.

Dr. Rowland holds a bachelor’s degree from Wellesley College, a Masters in Public Administration from the University of California at Los Angeles, and a Doctorate in Health Policy and Management from Johns Hopkins University.
