Michael E. T. I. Boerrigter, PhD

Michael Boerrigter

Dr. Boerrigter’s research interests focus on the elucidation of the genetic and environmental factors that influence aging. The development of new, well-defined transgenic mouse mutation models as well as new techniques for measuring DNA repair and DNA mutations in vivo are central to the investigation of age-related changes in the susceptibility to genotoxic human (and rodent) carcinogens.

Dr. Boerrigter received his PhD in Medicine from the State University of Leiden in the Netherlands based on his research into the role(s) of defective DNA repair in aging and age-related diseases. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship at Harvard Medical School, and joined the Division on Aging at Harvard Medical School in 1992 as an Instructor in Medicine. In 1996 Dr. Boerrigter founded Leven, Inc., a biotechnology company dedicated to the development of new toxicology testing procedures and that allow real-time monitoring of mutations in any organ/tissue of any organism.
