Victoria Vaughan Dickson, PhD, CRNP

Victoria Vaughan Dickson, PhD, CRNPVictoria Vaughan Dickson, PhD, CRNP is an Assistant Professor in the College of Nursing of New York University. Her research focuses on investigating the multi-factorial influences on the health behavior of self-care among older adults with cardiovascular disease in order to develop interventions that will improve their health and quality of life. She is interested specifically in aging workers with coronary heart disease and the influence of organization of work (i.e., work processes and organizational practices) on their health, productivity and quality of life. As a Brookdale Fellow, she will investigate the self-care practices of aging workers with CHD and the relationship of organization of work, resultant job-level risk factors including stress, self-care, and health and productivity outcomes. Findings of this research are anticipated to guide the development of a targeted intervention to improve self-care among aging workers with CHD and thereby, improve health, productivity and quality of life in this growing segment of America’s workforce. Implications of study results may potentially lead to recommendations for workplace policies and generate novel job accommodations that facilitate self-care within the context of work.

Dr. Dickson is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, School of Nursing (PhD and MSN) and Temple University School of Nursing (BSN) in Philadelphia, PA. She is a nationally certified adult nurse practitioner with extensive clinical experience in the primary care of older adults and cardiovascular nursing. Dr. Dickson is an active member of the NYU College of Nursing John A. Hartford Institute of Geriatric Nursing. She also holds an adjunct assistant professor appointment at the University of Pennsylvania, School of Nursing Division of Family and Community Health.
